Designing Climate-Resilient Housing Using Local Materials

Designing Climate-Resilient Housing Using Local Materials Facilitator: Youness Ouazri In many climate-vulnerable regions, the question is not just how to build — but how to build in ways that allow people to stay. This workshop explores how local materials such as earth and soil can be used to design homes that are thermally comfortable, resilient to extreme conditions, and accessible to the communities who live in them. Drawing from on-the-ground work, participants will examine the decisions behind material choice, structure, and design, while considering constraints such as cost, climate, and cultural context. Through practical examples and critique, the session focuses on what it takes to create housing that is not only sustainable, but viable, maintainable, and rooted in place.
