Our Roots

The summit is an initiative organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board, in collaboration with strategic partner, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

Our Vision

We believe in a future where youth, Indigenous communities, and local knowledge–holders work together to steward living landscapes, nurturing ecosystems, cultures, and communities that thrive in balance.

Our Mission

RAYS creates a grounded, inclusive space for young people, Indigenous leaders, scientists, and creatives to come together, share knowledge, learn from one another, and explore practical pathways for climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and cultural continuity. We support youth to understand their role in caring for land and community — and to shape solutions that reflect both local realities and global challenges.

Our Values and Principles

Respect for Land & Life - We honour the intrinsic value of ecosystems, species, and human cultures; we recognise that land and nature sustain life, identity, and community.
Inclusivity & Diversity - We welcome voices from different cultures, backgrounds, ages, and perspectives; we believe diversity strengthens our collective capacity.
Humility & Learning - We value listening, reflection, and openness; we recognise that we must learn from Indigenous custodians, local communities, and natural systems.
Collaboration & Mutual Support - We believe in working together, sharing knowledge and resources, and supporting one another across communities and generations.
Youth-Centered Action & Intergenerational Responsibility - We trust in the energy, creativity, and commitment of youth, and we recognise our shared responsibility to future generations.
Practicality & Grounded Solutions - we focus on realistic, context-sensitive actions rooted in local realities and informed by science, tradition, and community needs.

Our Commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)

At RAYS, our mission is guided by the global blueprint for a better and more sustainable future — the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. From good health and wellbeing to climate action, our programmes and partnerships actively support:

We respectfully acknowledge that this summit takes place on the ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples of Sarawak, including the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, and Malay communities. We honour their enduring connection to this land, their cultures, and their traditions, and recognise their continued contributions to the richness of Sarawak's heritage.
