Terung Asam: A Story of Place, Identity, and Representation

This session highlights the need for representation in heritage and culture by demonstrating different ways in which the unique profiles of terung asam can be brought to new life simply by ensuring enough of it is represented in the recipe. This is analogous to the reality of most indigenous communities, where their heritage is appears to be exoticised when not enough of its people are represented for its public facing image, losing meaning and purpose.
