Tropical Rainforest Ecologist

Participated in RAYS

2026

Dr. Dzaeman is the Executive Director of the Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre (TRCRC) and has served on the alternate Board of Governors for Landskap Malaysia, TRCRC’s sister organisation, since 2012. His involvement with TRCRC began at its inception, where he played a key role in early discussions to establish a national seed bank. In his current role, he leads efforts to build a nationwide network of living collections for Malaysia’s endangered plant species, ranging from seed collection of threatened tree species to driving intergovernmental collaboration and supporting national environmental commitments. He is currently spearheading TRCRC’s Forest, the New Economy programme, which focuses on sustainable land use and the restoration of degraded lands to mitigate climate change. From this programme, key initiatives have emerged, including the EU SUPA initiative addressing regional haze in ASEAN and the Seed to Tree Initiative, which strengthens restoration value chains through technology. Under his leadership, TRCRC has received several accolades, including the 2023 Full Circle Award and the Maxis Awards 2021. He holds a BSc in Zoology from Queen Mary University of London, an MSc in Ecology, and a PhD in Rainforest Restoration from the University of Zurich.

We respectfully acknowledge that this summit takes place on the ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples of Sarawak, including the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, and Malay communities. We honour their enduring connection to this land, their cultures, and their traditions, and recognise their continued contributions to the richness of Sarawak's heritage.
