Global Environmental Leader
Elizabeth Wathuti is a multi-award-winning Kenyan environmentalist and globally recognised climate leader. She holds a Head of State Commendation in the Order of the Grand Warrior (O.G.W.) and has been officially recognised as a National Hero of Kenya by the National Heroes Council for her outstanding contributions to environmental conservation. Elizabeth is the Founder and CEO of the Green Generation Initiative (GGI), one of Africa’s fastest-growing youth-led organisations focused on climate and environmental action. Under her leadership, GGI advances locally led environmental restoration, large-scale tree planting in schools and communities across key water catchment areas, climate education, and community resilience initiatives throughout Africa. In recognition of her impact, she was named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders of 2025 and serves as a Commissioner on the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, contributing to global discussions on water governance and valuing the hydrological cycle as a global common good. Elizabeth has received numerous international accolades, including the TIME Impact Award, the Green Climate Fund Climate Youth Champion, the Amnesty International Chair Award, and the Africa Green Person of the Year Award. Through her leadership and advocacy, she continues to inspire youth-led climate action, environmental restoration, and sustainable development across the continent.
