Ezra Tekola

Internationally Renowned Sape' Musician and Maker

Participated in RAYS

2024

Ezra Tekola is a sape' player and maker who has a passion for traditional arts and is keen on learning about them in depth. He strives to preserve the indigenous heritage of Borneo and make it more accessible for younger generations to appreciate and understand. His approach to making sape' is to add decorative pieces or motifs that are personal or unique so that having a sape' from him is akin to collecting a piece of art, in doing so it revolutionises sape'-making whilst still rooted in tradition. Ezra Tekola is a founding member of the internationally renowned band, At Adau.

We respectfully acknowledge that this summit takes place on the ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples of Sarawak, including the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, and Malay communities. We honour their enduring connection to this land, their cultures, and their traditions, and recognise their continued contributions to the richness of Sarawak's heritage.
