Race, Mental Health and Climate Justice Advocate

Varsha Yajman is an Indian-Australian youth advocate and writer exploring the intersection of race, mental health, and climate justice. She is a soon-to-be lawyer and also holds a politics degree from the University of Sydney.

Varsha currently works in climate litigation and began her advocacy journey in 2018, becoming an organiser for School Strike for Climate and helping to mobilise over 350,000 people across Australia. In 2020, she took on the role of Schools Co-ordinator for the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, leading sessions on climate justice for high school students. Varsha was also a co-ordinator at Sapna South Asian Climate Solidarity, a collective for climate justice in the South Asian diaspora in Australia, working to shift colonial narratives about climate change.

Her contributions to youth mobilisation and climate action have earned her significant recognition, including being named one of the 100 Women Resetting the World by Women’s Agenda in 2021, and one of 30 individuals changing the world by 2030 by Urban List in 2022.

In addition to her activism, Varsha is an associate researcher at the Young and Resilient Research Centre and hosts the podcast The Silent Majority. She is also a writer, covering topics from climate and pop culture to using her lived experience to advocate for mental health awareness.
